BigV Coaching Staff

The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is thrilled to announce the full coaching staff for the BigV 2019 season.

Continuing in their roles as Head Coaches, Gerard Hillier returns after guiding his team to runners up in State Championship Women in 2019 whilst Lucas Allen is back to lead the Men after back to back playoff appearances.

2019 will be the third consecutive season that our Senior Representative Program has had the same Head Coaches, providing great stability and direction for the Association.

Joining Hillier on the Senior Women’s staff is Joe Turner.  Joe was Head Coach of our Youth League program in 2018 and has previously assisted Gerard both with the Senior Women’s Program as well as within Basketball Victoria Country State Teams.

Joe’s significant experience as a Head Coach at many levels will be an invaluable asset for the Senior Women in 2019 according to Hillier “Joe will be able to call upon his experience as a Head Coach to positively impact our program.  He has a tremendous Basketball mind, particularly on the defensive end of the floor and we trust that his experience and knowledge will aid our program in its development”.

Ben White returns to the Men’s program in 2019, having spent 2018 as an Assistant Coach with the Senior Women’s Program.  Having previously assisted Allen during the 2017 BigV season as well as at the 2018 Australian Junior Championships, Ben will be able to hit the ground running as per Lucas’ comments “Ben will be able to have an impact immediately within our program.  Having worked with me previously, less time is needed to build an understanding of the expectations involved.  Ben has a great understanding of what we’re trying to achieve and how we plan to get there”.

Joining Lucas Allen and Ben White on the Men’s program staff is Tobey Flynn.  Tobey makes the transition from a player to coaching for the 2019 season, although Allen believes the conversion is as natural as you could ask “Tobey has done an incredible job leading our group from the floor for the previous two years, there will be some significant additions to his role as Assistant Coach, however, they will be more around formalising his role rather than relying on the natural leadership he has previously provided.  It is exciting to be able to continue to have Tobey around the program as he brings unbelievable value”.

The Senior Program has announced their three import signings; Megan Smith, Kristina LaLonde and Troyce Manassa, with local player signings to be announced in the coming weeks.
